Hello, Cornhusker volleyball fans! Today, I am excited to share my thoughts about the 2025 Nebraska volleyball season, which is set to start on August 9 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Just imagine the summer sun is shining over Lincoln, and it feels nice at 20°C. In this blog, I will share my thoughts about the weather, players, key matches, away games, and fun things for fans. Let’s get started!
John Cook, the head coach of the Huskers, announced his retirement after 25 years of successful seasons. So, now Dani Busboom Kelly is leading the women’s volleyball team as head coach. She has experience working with John Cook as an assistant coach and has also served as the head coach of the Louisville women’s volleyball team.
Volleyball Players
Nebraska Volleyball has announced a powerful and diverse list of players for the 2025 season. There are 17 active players, including seven freshmen. I will talk about each one in a simple way. Let’s go!
1. Keri Leimbach – DS/Libero (Freshman)
Keri is a new player. She is from Lincoln, Nebraska. She went to Lincoln Lutheran. She is not very tall (5-4), but she is fast and smart. As a libero, she will help in defense and passing. It’s her first season, so we will see how she grows.
2. Bergen Reilly – Setter (Junior)
Bergen is one of the stars of the team. She is from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is tall (6-1) and plays as a setter. She runs the offense and makes smart sets. This is her third year, and people trust her a lot. She played great last season.
3. Allie Sczech – Opposite Hitter (Senior)
Allie is a strong opposite hitter. She is 6-4 and from Texas. She played at Baylor before coming to Nebraska. Now it’s her senior year. She is powerful and can hit the ball hard. She can block too.
4. Campbell Flynn – Setter (Freshman)
Campbell is a tall freshman setter (6-3). She is from Michigan. This is her first year, and she will learn from Bergen. She has good hands and court vision. In the future, she can be very important.
5. Rebekah Allick – Middle Blocker (Senior)
Rebekah is one of the team leaders. She is from Nebraska too. At 6-4, she is tall and strong at the net. She blocks well and scores with quick hits. She plays with confidence.
6. Laney Choboy – DS/Libero (Junior)
Laney is small (5-3), but she is quick. She comes from North Carolina. She has experience and knows how to play under pressure. She is always moving and reading the ball.
7. Maisie Boesiger – DS/Libero (Senior)
Maisie is another Nebraska girl. She plays in defense and helps with passing. She is smart and works hard in every match. This is her last season, so she will give her best.
8. Kenna Cogill – Middle Blocker (Freshman)
Kenna is a new middle blocker from Arizona. She is tall (6-4) and very athletic. She has a lot of potential. If she trains hard, she can help in blocking and scoring.
9. Virginia Adriano – Opposite Hitter (Sophomore)
Virginia is from Italy. She is very tall (6-5) and plays as an opposite hitter. Last year she was new, but now she will try to play more. Her height gives her a big advantage at the net.
10. Olivia Mauch – DS/Libero (Sophomore)
Olivia is from Nebraska. She plays in the back row. She is good at digging and passing. She will try to get more time on court this season.
11. Teraya Sigler – Outside Hitter (Freshman)
Teraya is a big name from high school. She is from Arizona and is 6-3. She can jump high and hit with power. Everyone is excited to see her play. She might start soon.
12. Taylor Landfair – Outside Hitter (Senior)
Taylor transferred from Minnesota. She is tall (6-5) and has strong attacks. She was already a top player before coming here. Now she brings experience and energy to the team.
14. Manaia Ogbechie – Middle Blocker (Freshman)
Manaia is from California. She is 6-3 and plays in the middle. As a freshman, she will learn fast. She has good movement and will help on blocks.
15. Andi Jackson – Middle Blocker (Junior)
Andi is very solid in the middle. She’s 6-3 and from Colorado. She plays smart and helps in both attack and defense. She knows the Nebraska system well.
18. Ryan Hunter – Opposite Hitter (Freshman)
Ryan is from North Carolina. She is 6-2 and strong. This is her first year, but she looks ready. She hits hard and is not afraid to go for big plays.
21. Skyler Pierce – Outside Hitter (Redshirt Freshman)
Skyler did not play much last season, so she is still a freshman. She is from Kansas and is 6-2. She is ready to show what she can do now. She has a lot of talent.
27. Harper Murray – Outside Hitter (Junior)
Harper is one of the most exciting players. She is from Michigan and is 6-2. She has great energy and plays with passion. She was very good last year, and fans love her.
his roster is full of talent. Some players are stars already. Others are still learning. The mix of experience and young talent is very good. The team has strong setters, fast liberos, and big hitters. I think Nebraska will have a great season. I can’t wait to watch them play.
Coaches
Behind every great team, there are great coaches. Nebraska Volleyball has one of the best coaching teams in the country. They work hard every day to help the players grow and play their best. I really like how they coach — with passion, energy, and care. Let me tell you about them.
Dani Busboom Kelly – Head Coach
Dani is the new head coach this season. She used to play for Nebraska and even won a national title in 2006. That’s so cool! After playing, she became a coach. Before this, she was the head coach at Louisville and did a great job there. Now, she is back in Nebraska, leading the team she once played for. She knows the Husker way very well. She is smart, strong, and always ready to lead. I’m very excited to see what she does this season.
Brennan Hagar – Interim Assistant Coach
Brennan is now serving as an interim assistant coach. He was with the team before as a grad assistant. He already knows the players and how things work in the program. Now he gets a bigger role, and I think he will do a great job helping with training and support.
Jaylen Reyes – Assistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator
Jaylen has been with Nebraska for some years now. He is in charge of defense and works closely with the liberos. He is also the main guy for recruiting, which means he helps find new young talent for the future. He is full of energy and always supports the team with a smile. The players like him a lot because he’s both serious and fun.
Kelly (Hunter) Natter – Assistant Coach
Kelly used to be a top setter for Nebraska. Now she is coaching the setters. That’s perfect! She understands the game really well. She knows how to make good decisions during fast plays. She is also calm and kind, which helps younger players learn faster. I think she’s a great role model, especially for the setters.
Jordan Larson – Assistant Coach
Jordan is a volleyball legend. She played for Nebraska and later for Team USA. She even won an Olympic gold medal! Now she’s back to help the team as a coach. Just imagine learning from someone like her — it’s amazing. Her experience brings a lot of value to the team. She knows what it takes to win at every level.
Lindsay Peterson – Director of Operations
Lindsay helps with all the behind-the-scenes work. She takes care of schedules, travel plans, and everything else the team needs. She doesn’t coach on the court, but her job is super important. Without her, things would not run smoothly. She keeps everything organized.
Nate Wilson – Video & Administrative Coordinator
Nate watches and edits video. That means he helps players and coaches see what happened during matches. This is important for learning and improving. He also helps with some admin work. He’s like the tech and video expert of the team.
Joni Duff – Volleyball Administrative Assistant
Joni is the one who supports the whole volleyball office. She helps with day-to-day work and communication. She makes sure everything is ready for practices, games, and events. She’s friendly and helpful. The team and staff really appreciate her.
I think this coaching staff is one of the best in the country. They all bring something special — experience, skills, and heart. Some of them used to play for Nebraska, so they understand what it means to wear that jersey. They care about the players and the game.
This season, I feel Nebraska is in good hands. With these coaches and this team, I believe something great can happen. Go Big Red!
🔥 What to Expect from Nebraska Volleyball – 2025 Season Match by Match
This season, Nebraska Volleyball has many exciting games. Some are against very strong teams, and some are chances to grow. Here’s what I think we can expect.
Red-White Scrimmage – Aug 9 & Alumni Match – Aug 16 (Lincoln, Neb.)
These are not real games but they are still important. The Red-White Scrimmage helps coaches see who is ready to start. It’s also fun for fans to see the team in action. In the Alumni Match, old Nebraska players come back to play. It’s always special. I think the team will use these matches to test new players.
Pittsburgh – Aug 22 (Lincoln)
Pitt is a tough team. They made the NCAA tournament many times. This will be a big challenge early in the season. Nebraska needs to play smart. I think it will be close, but Nebraska has a chance if they serve well.
Stanford – Aug 24 (Lincoln)
Stanford is always strong. Last year, Nebraska beat them 3–0, but this year it could be harder. Stanford wants revenge. But Nebraska is at home, so I think we can do it again if our block is strong.
Lipscomb – Aug 29 (Nashville, Tenn.)
This should be a win for Nebraska. Lipscomb is good, but not at Nebraska’s level. It’s also good to play away and get used to different places.
Kentucky – Aug 31 (Nashville)
Kentucky won the national title in 2020. They have good players. This will be a big test. Nebraska must pass well and be fast in offense. I think it will be close.
Wright State – Sept 5 (Lincoln)
Nebraska should win this one. Wright State is improving, but the Huskers are better in all areas. A good chance to give young players more time.
California – Sept 7 (Lincoln)
Cal has some talent, but Nebraska should be too strong. Our hitters are more powerful. We need to stay focused, though.
Utah – Sept 12 (Lincoln)
Utah can be dangerous. They like to play fast. Nebraska has to stay calm and play good defense. I think we will win, but it won’t be easy.
Grand Canyon – Sept 13 (Lincoln)
This is a newer team, and they are rising fast. Still, Nebraska should control this match. Good time to work on team chemistry.
Arizona – Sept 20 (Lincoln)
Arizona is athletic, but Nebraska is better. Our block and serving can win this match. I expect a 3–0 or 3–1 win.
Creighton – Sept 16 (Omaha)
Creighton is our in-state rival. This game is always big. It’s in Omaha, so many fans will come. Nebraska has more power, but Creighton will fight hard. Expect a close match.
Michigan – Sept 24 (Lincoln)
@ Michigan – Oct 19 (Ann Arbor)
Michigan is a decent team. They have some solid hitters. But Nebraska should be able to win both matches. At home, we’ll be more confident. On the road, we must stay sharp.
Maryland – Sept 27 (Lincoln)
Maryland is getting better, but Nebraska is still stronger. This match is good to build momentum before the harder games.
@ Penn State – Oct 3 (University Park)
Penn State – Nov 28 (Lincoln)
These will be huge games. Penn State is always a tough rival. They block well and serve hard. In Pennsylvania, it will be hard. But at home, I think we can win. These games may decide the Big Ten.
@ Rutgers – Oct 4 (New Jersey)
Rutgers is not very strong yet. Nebraska should win this match without much trouble.
Washington – Oct 10 (Lincoln)
Washington is a strong Pac-12 team. This match will be exciting. Both teams are tall and fast. Nebraska has to stay clean and focused. It could go to 5 sets.
@ Purdue – Oct 12 (Indiana)
Purdue is tricky. They play fast and are hard to beat at home. Nebraska will need big plays from Harper Murray and Landfair. I think we can win, but it won’t be easy.
@ Michigan State – Oct 17 (East Lansing)
Michigan State – Oct 25 (Lincoln)
Michigan State is rebuilding. Nebraska should win both matches if they stay focused. These games are good to rest starters if needed.
Northwestern – Oct 24 (Lincoln)
Northwestern is okay, but Nebraska has more skill. I expect a 3–0 win here.
Wisconsin – Oct 28 (Madison, Wis.)
This is one of the biggest games of the year. Wisconsin beat us in some big matches in the past. It’s in Madison, so it will be tough. Nebraska has to play perfect. If we win, it shows we are ready for anything.
Oregon – Nov 2 (Lincoln)
Oregon is good and always fast. This match will be fun to watch. Both teams like long rallies. Nebraska needs to serve strong to stop their offense.
@ Minnesota – Nov 8 (Minneapolis)
Minnesota is another hard road game. Their crowd is loud. Nebraska must block well and play smart. I think we can win, but it will be close.
@ UCLA – Nov 14 (Los Angeles)
@ USC – Nov 15 (Los Angeles)
Two matches in LA — this is a tough trip. UCLA and USC are both skilled. Nebraska will need energy and focus. If we win both, it will be a big sign we’re ready for the NCAA tournament.
Iowa – Nov 20 (Lincoln)
Iowa is a weaker team right now. Nebraska should win this one easily. Good time to try new lineups.
@ Indiana – Nov 22 (Bloomington, Ind.)
Indiana plays with heart but Nebraska has more depth. If we don’t make too many errors, we should win 3–0.
Ohio State – Nov 29 (Lincoln)
This might be the final and biggest match of the season. Ohio State is always good. If this match decides the Big Ten title, it will be loud and exciting. I think Nebraska can win if the crowd brings the energy.
My Final Thoughts
This season is going to be full of big tests and exciting moments. Nebraska has strong coaches, top players, and great fans. If the team stays healthy and focused, Nebraska can win the Big Ten. Maybe even make it back to the national championship.
