The Nebraska Volleyball season begins on 9 August in the afternoon, and 8,414 fans were present at John Cook Arena inside the Bob Devaney Sports Centre. The game was on live on the Big Ten Network.
The Red team came away with a 3–1 victory, winning the first three sets before the White team avoided a sweep with a strong finish in the fourth. The match planning was mixed the rosters and lineups throughout the match, giving all the players from both sides an opportunity to compete alongside and against each other.
A Competitive Start to the Season
The basic purpose of this match is to test the volleyball players how they respond to pressure, and give the home crowd a first look at new faces. The Head Coach’s strategy worked well. The Red team took the opening three sets by scores of 25–23, 25–23, and 25–22, while the White team bounced back in the final frame for a 25–17 win.
A Competitive Start to the Season
Rebekah Allick was the leader for all players and she made 16 kills with an impressive .433 hitting percentage while adding five blocks. Every time the Red team needed a big point, she was there to fill in the points with a quick middle attack. The day was tough for the middle blockers, and Freshman Kenna Cogill made an immediate impact, collecting 10 kills, five blocks, and a .421 hitting mark. Freshman Manaia Ogbechie made eight blocks on the historic day.
If we talk about the outsiders, Harper Murray made 15 kills and nine digs. , while Virginia Adriano finished the match with 11 kills, which were very necessary for the team victory, and Teraya Sigler recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Skyler Pierce chipped in nine kills, showing depth at the pin position.

Set 1 – Red rallies late (25–23)
The opening set showed just how evenly matched the squads were. The White team built a late 22–19 lead, but the Red side wasn’t finished. A 6–1 closing run included a Sigler ace, an Allick kill, and a key block from Ogbechie and Landfair. That block gave Red its first lead at 24–23, and they sealed it on the next rally.
Set 2 – Another comeback for Red (25–23)
White again had control late, leading 21–16. Cogill sparked the rally with two kills, followed by a Sigler winner to cut the deficit to two. Errors by White tied the set at 22–22 before Ogbechie and Sczech blocked for the lead. Allick then tied the score again and finished the set with back-to-back kills.
Set 3 – Close battle goes Red’s way (25–22)
This set was back-and-forth from the start, with neither side able to pull away. Tied at 20–20, Adriano’s kill and a Murray/Allick block pushed Red ahead. White tied it once more before two hitting errors sandwiched around another Allick kill ended the set.
Set 4 – White finishes strong (25–17)
Determined to avoid a sweep, White controlled the final frame. Sigler and Allick each had four kills, and White’s blocking slowed Red’s offense. A mid-set run gave White enough cushion to close out the match on their terms.

he Huskers won’t have to wait long for another challenge. Next Saturday at 6 p.m., they’ll host the program’s first-ever Alumni Match, bringing back some of the biggest names in Nebraska volleyball history.
