The Setter
The setter is like the “boss” on the court. The setter controls the ball and decides who will attack. Usually, the setter touches the ball second, after someone passes or digs it.
The setter needs to have soft hands and be quick. They must think fast and make good decisions. If there is no good setter, the team cannot play well. In my opinion, the setter is the most important player for offense.
Outside Hitter
The outside hitter is also called the left-side hitter. This player attacks from the left front side. The outside hitter is usually the main attacker and gets many balls to hit.
To be a good outside hitter, you need to jump high and hit strong. You also need to be ready to pass the ball when the other team serves. Outside hitters also block when they are at the net.
When I play, I like this position because it is fun to spike the ball hard.
Opposite Hitter
The opposite hitter is called this because they play opposite the setter. They are also known as right-side hitters. They attack from the right side and help block the other team’s outside hitter.
This player needs to be good at both offense and defense. They also help in passing sometimes. In my opinion, this player is very strong and needs to be smart too.
Middle Blocker
The middle blocker is usually the tallest player. They stand in the middle of the front row. Their main job is to block the opponent’s attacks. They jump fast and try to stop the ball at the net.
Middle blockers also attack, but usually they hit quick sets. It is not easy because you have to move fast and read the game. When I watch volleyball, I think middle blockers are very cool because they make strong blocks.
Libero
The libero is easy to see because they wear a different color jersey. They play only in the back row and cannot attack or block. Their main job is defense. They pass the serves and dig hard hits from the other team.
The libero needs to be very fast and have good ball control. They help keep the ball in play. I think this position is very important because good defense can change the game.
Defensive Specialist
The defensive specialist is similar to the libero, but they do not have a different jersey. They play in the back row and help with passing and defense.
