Second match of the Day 1 doubleheader, behind Texas vs TCU. A late window for Central and Eastern viewers.

Why the Huskers are opening in a hockey arena
College volleyball spent the last three years proving it can fill buildings this size. This weekend is the sport testing whether it can also fill a Saturday night in Las Vegas.
The Players Era Volleyball Showcase is the volleyball spin-off of the Las Vegas basketball event that has run at Thanksgiving since 2024. Players Era, an EverWonder Studio company, built it with MGM Resorts around a simple pitch: put four brand-name programs in one arena on one weekend, pay the athletes through NIL, and sell it as an event rather than a game.
Nebraska is the anchor. The Huskers went 33–1 last season, swept the Big Ten at 20–0 for a sixth conference title, and lost a five-set regional final to eventual national champion Texas A&M — a match that drew roughly 1.6 million viewers, the most-watched regional final the sport has ever had. Nearly all of that roster came back. Dani Busboom Kelly is in her second year in charge, and NCAA.com has Nebraska No. 1 in its preseason Power 10.
For UNLV, the invitation is the point. The Rebels play their home matches at Cox Pavilion, which seats about 2,500. On Aug. 29 they will walk into an 18,000-seat NHL arena four miles from campus to open their season against a five-time national champion they have never played. Malia Shoji's fourth-year program has never had a stage like this one.
What this match actually settles
- Nebraska's first competitive look at its senior core after a summer as the unanimous Big Ten favorite.
- Whether a top-heavy rotation still passes clean against genuinely aggressive serving in a neutral building.
- UNLV's baseline for a season built around Mountain West contention, measured against the best possible opponent.
- How a late-night Vegas volleyball window performs on national TV — the thing every organizer is watching.
Match day, in order
One ticket covers both matches in a session. If you are only coming for Nebraska, you still have a Texas team on the floor first — most people stay for both.
Doors listed to open
The AXS listing shows the session starting at 5:00 p.m. local. Ticket-holder entry times are printed on the ticket — check yours, because arena door times shift.
Texas vs TCU
Day 1's first match, listed at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. A Big 12 pairing that sets the floor for Sunday's Nebraska–Texas headliner.
Nebraska vs UNLV Main event

Who is actually on the floor
Rosters can still shift before the opener. Everything below reflects preseason releases from both athletic departments and conference announcements made in late July and early August.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Big Ten · Dani Busboom Kelly, 2nd season
Nebraska returns essentially the entire lineup that went unbeaten in conference play, led by a senior class that has started together since 2023: setter Bergen Reilly, outside hitter Harper Murray and middle blocker Andi Jackson. All three were unanimous preseason All-Big Ten picks — the only other unanimous selection in the 19-player group plays for Penn State — and all three are on the AVCA national player of the year watch list.
Reilly is the piece that makes the rest work. She was Big Ten player of the year last season and has been named the conference's best setter three times; a fourth would be a first in league history. Watch how quickly she gets Jackson involved in the middle early — that is Nebraska's usual tell for whether the passing is where they want it.

UNLV Rebels
Mountain West · Malia Shoji, 4th season
Shoji arrived in 2023 from Utah, where she spent five seasons as associate head coach through six straight NCAA tournament appearances. Her 2025 group produced the Mountain West newcomer of the year in Jaida Harris and saw libero Caleigh King pass 1,000 career digs, moving into UNLV's all-time top ten in both digs and service aces.
The Rebels have 29 regular-season matches ahead of them and a conference reshaped by the arrival of Hawai'i, UC Davis and UTEP. This is the first of eleven matches in four weekends, which means Shoji is balancing two things at once here: competing, and finding out what she has.

How to watch Nebraska vs UNLV
All four Showcase matches are carried by FOX across FOX and FS1. Which of the two networks takes the Nebraska–UNLV window has not been published.
Players Era has said the weekend runs on FOX and FS1, and has publicly framed Sunday's Nebraska–Texas match as the FOX headline window. That makes FS1 the likelier home for Saturday's 10:00 p.m. Eastern Nebraska–UNLV slot, but neither network has confirmed the per-match assignment, so treat it as unresolved until FOX posts its listings.
Whichever network it lands on, both are carried by every major live-TV service — YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, Sling and DIRECTV STREAM — and both stream through the FOX Sports app and FOXSports.com with a TV-provider login. FOX is also free over the air with an antenna; FS1 is not.
Before you go looking
- This is not a Big Ten Network match. Nebraska's BTN and B1G+ package covers conference play, not this event.
- Check the FOX Sports listings the morning of Aug. 29 — late-window assignments are the ones most likely to move.
- Avoid unofficial links circulating on social. The match is on national television; you do not need them.
- Nebraska's radio call is available statewide through Huskers Radio Network affiliates.
Getting in the building
Tickets are sold through AXS, T-Mobile Arena's ticketing partner, and they are sold by session, not by match. A Session 1 ticket covers both Saturday matches — Texas–TCU and Nebraska–UNLV. A Session 2 ticket covers both Sunday matches. If you want to see Nebraska play twice, you need both sessions.
Buy from AXS, or from a resale marketplace that guarantees transfer through AXS. Screenshots of mobile tickets do not scan at T-Mobile Arena; the pass has to be in the app or in your phone's wallet, which also means downloading it before you lose signal in the crowd outside.
The bag policy will catch you out
T-Mobile Arena does not allow bags or backpacks of any kind. The only exception is a small clutch, maximum 9 × 5 × 2 inches. There is no bag check on site, so anything larger goes back to your hotel or your car. Confirm the current policy on the arena's site before you leave — it does get updated.
Getting there
- The arena sits behind New York-New York and Park MGM, reached through The Park pedestrian plaza off Las Vegas Boulevard.
- Walking from a Strip hotel is usually faster than a rideshare when an event lets out. Rideshare pickup is on the Toshiba Plaza side and backs up badly after a Saturday night event.
- Paid garages at New York-New York, Park MGM and Aria are the standard options. Book the garage ahead when there are competing events on the Strip.
- A 7:00 p.m. first serve means you are leaving the building near or after 9:30 p.m. on a Saturday. Plan the exit before you plan the entrance.
Three things that decide it
Nebraska is a heavy favorite and everyone involved knows it. The interesting question is not who wins but what the scoreline reveals.
Serve pressure, both ways
UNLV's only real lever is missing Nebraska's passers with the serve. Nebraska's counter is the same tool. Watch the first two rotations of set one: if UNLV is passing to the middle of the net, this stays competitive longer than expected.
How fast the middle gets going
Nebraska's offense is at its most unpleasant when Reilly is running Jackson in the middle early, because it freezes the opposing block and opens the pins. If the middle is quiet, Nebraska is playing out of system more than it wants to.
Opening-night sloppiness
This is a first competitive match for both sides in a building neither knows, with unfamiliar sightlines and a deep ceiling. Serving errors and mistimed swings are normal in set one. Judge Nebraska on set three, not set one.
Nebraska vs UNLV FAQ
What time is Nebraska vs UNLV volleyball?
First serve is 7:00 p.m. Pacific on Saturday, August 29, 2026 — 9:00 p.m. Central and 10:00 p.m. Eastern. It is the second match of the Day 1 doubleheader, following Texas vs TCU.
What channel is the match on?
The Showcase is carried by FOX across FOX and FS1. The specific network for the Nebraska–UNLV window has not been announced. Sunday's Nebraska–Texas match has been described by the organizers as the FOX headline window, which points to FS1 for Saturday night, but confirm on the FOX Sports listings closer to the date.
Have Nebraska and UNLV played before?
No. This is the first meeting in the history of the two volleyball programs. There is no head-to-head record to reference.
Is this Nebraska's first match of the season?
It is Nebraska's official regular-season opener. The Huskers appear at Spikes Under the Lights at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on August 27 alongside Florida, SMU and Penn State, but that event is an exhibition and does not count toward the record.
Where do I buy tickets, and what does a ticket cover?
Through AXS, T-Mobile Arena's ticketing partner. Tickets are sold by session rather than by individual match — one Session 1 ticket admits you to both of Saturday's matches. Seeing Nebraska play both UNLV and Texas requires tickets to both sessions.
Can I bring a bag into T-Mobile Arena?
No bags or backpacks are permitted. The only exception is a small clutch no larger than 9 × 5 × 2 inches, and there is no bag check on site. Check the arena's current policy before travelling, since venue rules change.
Who else is playing in the Showcase?
Four teams: Nebraska, Texas, TCU and UNLV, playing two matches per day across August 29 and 30. Day 1 is Texas–TCU and Nebraska–UNLV. Day 2 is Nebraska–Texas and TCU–UNLV.
Who is favored?
Nebraska, clearly. The Huskers are the No. 1 team in NCAA.com's preseason Power 10, the unanimous preseason Big Ten favorite, and returning nearly all of a roster that went 33–1 last season. UNLV's realistic goal is to make Nebraska work for it, not to win it.
