If we talk about the University of Nebaraksa volleyball team, they have always been proud of their athletes due to their talents and amazing skills on the volleyball court. Laney Choboy is also considered among the rising stars of Husker volleyball. Laney Choboy’s height is 5-3 feet, and her position is DS libero from Raleigh, N.C.

In recent press conference question asked: 

 How have you embraced your role, even though it has changed several times this season?

Laney Choboy:
Liv and I are always competing, but we’re also always cheering each other on. We know that if the position switches back and forth again, we’ll continue supporting each other.

It can be difficult moving in and out of that position, but I think we’ve both handled it well. We try to bring the same energy and effort regardless of our role. Even when we’re playing defensive specialist instead of libero, we still try to contribute everything we would bring as the libero.

It has been challenging, but the coaches have really instilled confidence in me, and I don’t take that for granted.

 What is the biggest challenge of playing different roles and passing next to different players?

Laney Choboy:
That is probably the most challenging part. When you’re playing defensive specialist, even when the opposing team is targeting you, you know the ball is likely coming to you and you understand your responsibilities.

When you move into the libero position, you have to take more seams and pass next to players you may not have played beside during the previous few matches.

That can be difficult, but we work on it frequently in practice, so I think we’ll continue improving in that area.

 Do you play both left back and right back during practice?

Laney Choboy:
I mostly play left back, but I played right back during my first two years here, so I feel like it would be an easy transition.

 Would you like to play NCAA Tournament matches at Pinnacle Bank Arena?

Laney Choboy:
That was my first time hearing about the possibility, but I really loved playing at PBA. Everybody there was amazing.

Passing in larger gyms is usually more difficult, but I felt very comfortable at PBA.

How would you describe the personality of this year’s team?

Laney Choboy:
Dani said we were “lit,” but we told her to say that.

I feel like our team this year is very outgoing and bubbly. It’s different from last year’s team, although it’s difficult to identify exactly what makes it different.

Both teams are amazing, but this year it feels like everyone is unapologetically themselves, and we’re all comfortable with that.

 How important is it to have players who can come off the bench and contribute immediately?

Laney Choboy:
I’ve honestly been very impressed with this team’s ability to come off the bench and play as though they’ve been in the match the entire time.

I think people sometimes overlook how difficult it is to enter a match cold and still perform well while maintaining a positive mentality.

No matter who enters the match, the transition feels seamless because we trust one another and understand each other’s abilities. When Campbell and Ally enter through a double substitution, nobody panics. We know they’ll come in and do what they need to do.

I’ve been really impressed with everyone who has come off the bench.

 How do you approach the competition to become the best possible back-row unit when your playing time and role may change?

Laney Choboy:
Our back row is very strong, and it doesn’t matter who is playing back there. We haven’t lost a set since September 16, even though we’ve frequently moved in and out of different positions.

It doesn’t matter who gets the role. We all want to win and perform well for our team. There is no finish line in our position.

Whether I play libero for two matches or someone else plays for three matches doesn’t matter. Our ultimate goal is to win a national championship. We aren’t working simply to become the libero or defensive specialist. We’re working to help our team win.

In the 2026 season, she made  6 assists against Wright St. and made 16 digs against Pittsburgh. She said about her recent performance,”I think most of the time with me and my partner, I option a lot.
So I basically just let them win the first ball. But the beach was really fun. It was different this year because  last year I was with Lindsay, and this year I was with multiple  different people throughout the season. But it was really fun. I like beach. Yeah, the beach is just a  lot easier on our bodies. So if we were to come back in January, after that long of a season, then I feel like our bodies  would just be torn apart by the time we get back to the season. So I think the beach allows us to take time to allow our bodies to recover a little bit more. And then, on the beach, everyone  has to be able to play defense. Everyone has to be able to set. So, I think that that’s key  also when we get indoor, we have the reps from outdoor. My high school career was a little odd. So, I really only played a  full season my senior year. But that’s when I hit it, yeah. Yeah, it was actually really hard for me. And I think you could tell a  little bit in how I played. In the grand scheme of things, I had a good season. But there’s always improvements to be made. And I think over the spring, my main focus was to improve  on the things I needed to.”
